Who I Am

Hi, I’m Emma an AMFT (she/her), Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist.

What I Do

I am an eating disorder therapist and diet culture liberator. I aim to help my clients create new narratives around food and cultivate body trust and respect. I help people who yearn for a more peaceful and stable relationship with their body, food and self but are struggling to find this by themselves – which makes complete sense! My main goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and calm space where my clients can be their most authentic selves. I utilize a person-centered and collaborative approach as I believe that the relational aspect between the client and therapist is one of the keys to healing. I am HAES® informed and aligned and feel that this approach is crucial to helping people to make peace with food and their bodies. I aim to be an inclusive, culturally competent, and LGBTQIA+ affirming and accepting therapist, and I am committed to learning about my clients' different experiences. I am able to convey strength and knowledge while also being gentle and kind so that my client’s feel heard, supported, and challenged.

More About Me

I received my MA in Clinical Psychology, emphasis on Marriage and Family therapy from Pepperdine University. I have spent the past three years working in eating disorder residential treatment settings for both adults and adolescents. This experience was so rewarding to me and confirmed my passion for helping people with eating disorders live more fulfilling lives; I can't picture myself doing anything else!

In my free time I enjoy cuddling and walking near the ocean with my dogs – who are 15 and 19, spending quality time with my friends and family, going to the movies, reading, card games, and tennis. An interesting fact about me is that I was born in Ireland and moved to LA when I was

6-years-old although I still consider it a second home.

How I Help

I utilize evidence-based practices such as CBT to help clients challenge their stuck points, negative core beliefs, and cognitive distortions as well as poke holes in their irrational/eating

disorder thoughts so that they can be kinder to themselves. I utilize DBT, ACT, and psychodynamic principles as they resonate with my client’s needs and goals. I want to help my clients experience more joy and self-compassion in their lives as living with an eating disorder is such a lonely, isolating, and hard experience.
