Outpatient Eating Disorder Practice
Eating Disorder Therapy LA is a specialized outpatient eating disorder practice in the heart of Los Angeles. Under the direction of Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D., Clinical Psychologist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, we offer psychotherapy at the outpatient level. This means we provide individual or family psychotherapy, usually once per week.

Counseling For Teens and Adults with All Eating Disorders
Our specialty is in the provision of evidence-based treatment for teens and adults with eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Other Specified Eating Disorder (OSFED; formerly known as EDNOS or Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified). We also treat ARFID, vomiting, choking, and swallowing phobias, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Our Therapy Approach
We treat eating disorders in people of all ages, genders, and ethnicities. Our therapists provide state-of-the-art empirically validated treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family Based Treatment (FBT). We modify these therapies to be inclusive and trauma-informed.
Dr. Muhlheim is one of only a very limited number of FBT-certified therapists in Los Angeles County. We also provide CBT psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, body image, and similar issues. We adhere to Health At Every Size® principles. EDTLA therapists recognize that bodies are naturally diverse and do not pathologize people in larger bodies. We do not promote the pursuit of weight loss and we work to fight against weight stigma.
Eating disorders are complicated and dangerous illnesses. We collaborate with other professionals including registered dietetic nutritionists, internists, pediatricians, and psychiatrists. If needed we can recommend treatment team members.
We believe that families do not cause eating disorders, but CAN play an essential part in recovery. At EDTLA, we provide support for family members who are providing care for their loved ones in recovery.
